Fantasy football draft is like any other sports draft. A draft is a process in which professional sports teams select players who are not under any form of contract with any other team. This system of drafting is virtually unknown to many other sports outside North America. In fantasy football, each team drafts NFL players. These players are kept in the teams until they are dropped or are traded. The dropping of a player refers to them becoming free agents. In most of the leagues, more than one team cannot own the same player.
Types of Drafts:
There are two types of fantasy football drafts. The first type is traditional or the serpentine draft. In this type, the owner takes turns drafting the players in a serpentine way. It means that the owner, who picks first in the odd rounds, picks last in the even rounds. This keeps the fairness intact. The second type is the auction draft in which each owner has an imaginary budget which he has to use to purchase all his players in a way that is used in the traditional auction format. The players are nominated first and then the bidding process starts. The highest bidder walks away with the player reducing their budget accordingly. It is accepted that the draft is the most important day in the season of fantasy football. This is so in spite of the fact that there are no games played on that day.
Current Scenario:
In the current scenario, the drafts have become a routine process as many fantasy football managers have shifted to various different locations. They still enjoy the competition against the same managers. The advent of the internet has made the fantasy football draft a virtual event. But people still crave for the excitement of being together on draft day.
